Larimar: Curiously Beautiful, Powerfully Healing
What is Larimar?
Larimar is a relatively newly discovered crystal stone. It is usually a soft blue with faint white, green, or translucent marks and is named for the sea which it so closely resembles. A powerfully soothing stone, larimar is both beautiful and calming when worn as jewelry. Larimar is a rare and beautiful stone found only in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. Its stunning tranquil blue colors are reminiscent of a tranquil Caribbean lagoon.
The Metaphysical Benefits of Larimar
Larimar is a stone of healing, understanding, and coastal nature. Considered to be an Earth-healing stone, larimar heals both people and their environment. It connects to the energy of the world around us and counteracts negativity and imbalances of the Earth. When carried or worn, it harmonizes the vibrations of the person, aligning their energies and emotions. It evokes the peaceful feeling of being in nature, heals past trauma, and connects the holder to a childlike joy and playfulness.
Larimar can be used to advance reflexology work in conjunction with pressure points and aromatherapy treatments. Larimar is an effective healing stone for pain management. A larimar crystal placed directly on the skin at the site of a painful spot works to draw out the pain. Larimar is a gentle, soothing stone that produces an all-over calming sensation when carried in a pocket or worn as jewelry. It can be placed directly on the skin for extended periods of time for a comforting and peaceful sensation.
Larimar and Turtles
Larimar evokes the peaceful images and calming sensations of the sea. Because of this, larimar pendants and jewelry are often made to resemble turtles and dolphins. People who study crystals know that the shape and symbology of healing stones is integral to their use.
The Hawaiian sea turtle, known simply as the honu, is one of the oldest living creatures on Earth. Sea turtles are a powerful symbol of perseverance, endurance, and long life. Honu carry a sacred status in Hawaii and are seen as guides who can always find their way home. A larimar stone placed in a turtle pendant or cut into a turtle shape serves as a reminder to journey into nature but remember your way back home. Wearing a larimar turtle brings the gift of a long and fulfilled life.
Chakra Healing with Crystals
Chakra healing is about energy systems within the body. The chakra system is based on seven energy centers on the body with each level represented by a color. Chakra is the Sanskrit word for wheel, and each energy center should be envisioned as a wheel with energy flowing through and between each one.
The seven chakras fall along the centerline of the body beginning with the root chakra at the very base of the spine going up to the crown chakra at the top of the forehead.
The colors move from red at the bottom to orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet at the top.
Each chakra corresponds to a color.
Crystals of the corresponding color are used to heal and align each chakra, balancing the energies of the body.
The Throat Chakra and Larimar
The Throat Chakra, or Vishuddha is located at the center of the throat within the neck and is represented by the color blue. The mantra of the throat chakra is “I speak” and serves as a reminder that we each have a voice and a truth. An unblocked throat chakra enables one to freely speak their truth and find the right words to express themselves.
It is closely associated with the thyroid, respiratory system, teeth, and vocal cords. It is related to self-expression, open communication, organization, the ability to plan for the future, an appreciation of beauty, the ability to seek peace and order in life, and the ability to speak and appreciate the truth.
Larimar can be used to balance the throat, enhancing communication in both the physical and spiritual world. It calms the nerves when speaking in public and allows one to speak truthfully and openly with confidence. When placed or worn between the heart and throat, larimar stimulates romantic love and assists in honest communication within your relationships.
How to Use Larimar
As a pendent on a necklace, larimar is perfectly centered between the throat and heart chakras. The heart is represented by the color green and the throat by the color blue. When worn between these two chakras, a pendant of larimar balances and aligns the energy of both centers. This allows the wearer to speak freely while also opening their heart to kindness and compassion. Larimar stimulates open communication within relationships and a larimar necklace is a wonderful gift for a close friend or romantic partner.
As earrings, larimar rests on either side of the throat. This allows energy to flow freely through the throat chakra. When worn as earrings, larimar can remove psychological blockages and dissolves self-sabotaging behaviors and thoughts.
When worn on a bracelet, larimar can be a powerful reminder of our intentions and goals. A crystal placed on the wrist is especially powerful because we tend to view it consistently throughout the day. The hand wearing the healing bracelet can be placed on the throat for improved communication or on a painful area for a healing boost.
When placed on a bookmark, larimar can bring deeper understanding and acceptance to whatever you may read. A honu on a larimar bookmark serves as a reminder that reading is a journey in itself and when you return to reality you will be wiser and more experienced for having ventured into the story.
Final Thoughts
Larimar is a beautiful blue crystal healing stone which aligns the throat chakra. It produces a soothing sensation and can be worn for long periods of time. When worn as jewelry, it harnesses the power within the wearer and balances internal energy with external forces. Larimar resonates the guidance and wisdom of ancient sea turtles and serves as a reminder to speak your truth and always find your way home.
